One of the many gambling forms played at present is the lottery. Lottery is won by matching the number on your tickets with those which are drawn.

It is believed that this type of gambling has its origins in China. Lottery has always been connected to the Chinese Keno. It is said that gambling by lottery has even helped the Chinese government build their great wall. This may also had served as an inspiration to other governments to legalize gambling thru lottery.

Some countries prohibit this form of gambling, and rendered it illegal, while other nations even put up national lotteries. National lotteries help in government's projects in form of taxes. Some people do not agree that lotteries help the citizens, however much this gambling helps the government build schools or bridges.

They argue that people who play in this form of gambling are the ones from the lower classes, so the money they use for gambling should have been used for their own food or housing first. Activists state that the government should be chasing the billionaires who evade taxes than tolerate this gambling and in effect burying the poor people into gambling debts.

However, this does not stop countries from legalizing lotteries. Countries like Argentina, Italy, Australia, Philippines and many more have allowed lottery to be played in them.

In the United States, lottery is also prevalent. It also comes in the form of scratch cards, and online lottery. Online gambling is famous today, and it seems that lottery is no exemption.

In Canada, they play the 6/49 draw, which is also played in the Philippines. The 6/49 draw is just one of the nationwide gambling thru lottery in Canada, the other one is called Lotto Super 7.

Lottery seems to have invaded France in an early time. This form of gambling is said to be introduced by King Francis I in the 1500's. Similar to China, lotteries in France also became source of funds for their country and for religious organizations and congregations. However, lottery was not easily accepted by all the French. Like other activists, Voltaire protested that this gambling form abuse the poorer section of the population, feeding on their desperation.

It is clear now that the lottery, like other forms of gambling, has its own advantages and disadvantages. It is found out that lottery does help build things for the government and the society, but lottery also takes money from the poor.
